This is a curated bank of Art Processes designed to enrich and diversify GCSE and A-Level sketchbooks.Organised alphabetically from A to Z, it offers a range of unique, practical, and inspiring art-making techniques that can be achieved using tools and materials that are readily available or easily sourced within a typical art classroom.

Application and Purpose

This resource was originally developed over the summer as a way to support students who were struggling to be more experimental in their creative journey. When a student had completed their set tasks and asked for ways to challenge themselves, this bank became a go-to source of inspiration; a means to extend, enrich, and re-energise their practice with processes that push boundaries and invite discovery.

This year, I’ve shared the full list of techniques with my Year 11 cohort, encouraging them to explore, take risks, and reconnect with the joy of experimentation as they prepare for their final year. The resource is designed to directly support AO2 (AQA)—developing students’ ability to refine ideas through purposeful experimentation with materials, techniques, and processes.

I’ve invited students to approach the list with curiosity, creating their own ‘wishlist’ of processes they’re most excited to explore. This approach has not only sparked new ideas in their sketchbooks but has also helped to reignite their creative confidence, reminding them that meaningful art often begins with play, exploration, and a willingness to try something new.
